This anthem was first published in 1926 when its first and third verses were performed in England. It was sung publicly for the first time in 1928. In 1938, the anthem was adopted. Meanwhile in 1997, the anthem was relinquished to create a new anthem by combining with "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika" and "Die Stem van Suid-Afrika" together.
